Ironic Olympic Advertising

Not really an original thought, but a thought none the less, it occurred to me this week that some of the primary sponsors of the Olympic games are pushing products that actual Olympic athletes could never actually use.

Do you think someone setting a world track-and-field record would have been allowed to have a Coke and Big Mac in the last five years? No.

2004 Toyota Echo Hatchback available for lease or sale

Echo Hatchback

I leased this 2004 Toyota Echo Hatchback last year, but now I’m getting married and don’t need my own car anymore. You can take over lease for the remaining 24 months. It’s a great car, but I barely ever drive it!

I’ve written quite a comprehensive review of the car. Here’s a photo of the actual car I have available. Here are the details:

  • Only 7,500 Kms
  • Less than 1 year old
  • 24 months left in 36 month lease
  • $330/month (tax/fees included) – I’m also open to a full buyout, which would be approximately $12,000CND
  • 4 door
  • Standard transmission
  • MP3/CD player
  • Buy out-right for $12,900 CDN

Contact steven@actsofvolition.com. Inquiries from Prince Edward Island are probably the only I can entertain. The local Toyota dealership would handle the transfer of lease.

For Sale: Fender Hot Rot DeVille 410 Guitar Amplifier (sold)

Update: this amp is now sold.

Fender Hot Rod DeVille 410

I’m looking to sell a 60W Fender Hot Rod DeVille 410 tube amp with four 10” speakers. The amp is in great shape, looks almost like new, and sounds great. It’s powerful, loud, and the tubes sound great (it has lots of great reviews). The original tubes have been replaced once.

  • 60 Watts power – matched tubes
  • Three 12AX7 tube used in the preamp section
  • Three input channels
  • Channel foot-switch
  • 4 – 10” Eminence speakers
  • Effects loop
  • Extension speaker jack
  • Fender reverb

Since it’s a large, heavy item, I’m not particularly interested in shipping it elsewhere (unless you want to make all of the arrangements and have it picked up or something). I’m asking $900 Canadian. Email steven@actsofvolition.com.

Mozilla Foundation Looking for Quality Design Help

The Mozilla team is looking for some help with some design work. The work would involve a variety of design tasks for the web and for print. For example, banner ads, small HTML page designs, print ad layout/design, etc.

What we’d like to do is assemble a loose team of people to whom we can throw out a quick piece of work and have someone who’s able speak-up and take on each piece of work.

Here are some of the conditions:

  • It’s all volunteer – no cash, sorry.
  • Be prepared to work within an existing defined (if still evolving) visual style – we’re not looking for people to put their personal stamp on any given piece of work.
  • Accept direction and vetoes – you will be given direction and iterations may be required.
  • Timelines are tight and notice is short.
  • We’re looking for experienced designers with demonstrated abilities.

If that doesn’t sound too terrible and you are an experienced designer, please send a brief introduction, overview of your interest, information on your availability, and a selection of portfolio URLs to: blake at cs dot stanford
dot edu
and bart at decrem dot com.

We’ll be choosing a small team from those interested to help us out. Thanks!
