As a general rule: Do not show up late to a meeting with a coffee.

I did this today, but you never should. The message is clear.

Is the reason for this rule that by showing up late with a coffee you are emphasizing having looked out for your own needs at the expense of the groups needs?

  That’s part of the problem, but the real issue is that it implies that while you might be 5 minutes late, you still thought you had time to spend five minutes getting a coffee.
