Simply Sean

Photo of Sean Cullen, not an attractive man

In the summer at CBC Radio One, it seems everyone leaves and they give Sean Cullen, goofy Canadian comic extraordinaire, run the studio on Saturday mornings with his show Simple Seán (note the accent on the ‘a’).

He rambles like an idiot for a few minutes. First you’ll think, How can they let this fool on the air? Next, you’ll be laughing out loud. This will repeat throughout the show.

Then, for some reason quite surprising, Sean plays fantastic music. Today he played Joel Plaskett, The Deers, the Mountain Goats, the New Pornographers, Sloan, Broken Social Scene, the Stills and a few other goodies.

A good listen - Saturday mornings on CBC Radio 1 through out the summer.

Please bring Simply Sean back soon. He is my morning wake-up pleasure on Saturdays. The silliness reminds me of home.

An absolute Genius. The best of CBC right here.
I love Simply Sean!
Sean Cullen is so excellent.
Anyone else trying to do what he does would sound like a raving lunitic, but with Sean Cullen its Simply Hilarious!

Simply Sean is simply stupid. I could not believe what I heard this morning.

If this, the Randy Bachman and the Gomeshi efforts continues, I will permanently shift my listening to NPR.

Sad, sad times for CBC Radio.

Simply Sean...last year I deemed him "Simple Sean" and shut the radio off. "Unbelievable!" I declared and wondered how low the once venerable CBC would go. However, this year(I now receive CPP and OSP and)I think he is unbelievable, and by that I mean Brilliant! He makes me laugh out loud while making coffee and ruminate how his ramble got him (and me) to where it did. Delightfully and sweetly very funny!

Okay, I am a fan...and I very much enjoy the music he plays too!

While I'm at it, I also enjoy Jian Ghomeshi(?) Randy Bachman and Stephen Page ...and more.

A note to the guy who may defect to NPR: Good choice if, in addition to great programs, you want also to get a lot of American political info. I know and love NPR too. It saved my life while I lived in "Bush Country"
But didja know that CBC was the model for NPR when they first got started? And CBC still gives good radio.

This program is in need of a podcast. Sean is absolutely amazing.
Can you buy simply sean episodes?
I caught Sean's show while drive through the Upper Penninsula of Michigan on my way home to Minneapolis. He's wonderful. I don't know how to catch his show again. A podcast would be great for US listeners.
Podcast.
Do it.

Heard this while spending the summer in Quebec. Why, oh why, can't we get this in the US?????? I'm insanely jealous of my neighbors up north!
Simply Sean on Saturday morning was a
great disappointment. Simply silly.

silly, perhaps, but genius definitely!
this show is good and the world needs more of it...

I listened to the August 25th show on a road trip from Vermilion, Alberta to Sandy Beach at Good Spirit Lake, Saskatchewan while for the entire journey observing a mass suicidal exodus of black fuzzy caterpillars as they attempted in fleets to move across the highway. The show and this event: two scientific miracles. Thank you for your suggestion regarding Noxema and sand, they work well together. I'm always grateful for new ideas pertaining to sand and new products to mix with the sand. Upon carrying out the rolling I thought,
"... probably the best advice I've ever taken." And my dog clearly found me to be impressive in my actions. I think it brought us closer together. Keep up the good work!
You are indeed the best of CBC!

Much love,
Waxy

This guy is absolutely the worst at monologues. I've heard his scripted stand-up and it's not too bad but his off-the-cuff dialogue is so stupid and pedantic, it makes the listening experience one of agony. True, his musical choices are pretty great but his terrible terrible banter just ruins his show. He's one of those morons who thinks his childish observations are hilarious. Maybe to a group of pot-heads sitting around a camp fire at 2am on a West Coast morning, but not to the majority of people with any brain power at all.

Cullen, play the music, script yourself some decent dialogue and otherwise stop abusing us with your observations.

i stopped listening to CBS on Saturday morning because of this show - awful. I do not mind goofy but this was terrible. I cringed. "Cottage cheese - I like cottage cheese, I am at the cottage, mmmmmm, cottage, fun , lake". I was in the car with a number of non CBC listeners and thought that converting them would be easy as there are normally insightful / funny shows in the morning. This show is BRUTAL. I have actually avoided the station in case I get caught unaware!! AWFUL. DO SOME RESEARCH - Give us something - not your ridiculous "I am witty thus putting words together is enjoyable for others". I am seriously angry that my tax dollars fund this show. As loathe as I am to swear - TAKE THIS **** OFF THE AIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Simply Sean - sometimes my mind and body argue over the worth of his blather - my body always wins - I wind up laughing over his nonsense.
Where is Sean? My summer has come to an end - no more Sean till next summer? Say it isn't so - It seems not even a week has gone by and the Ceeb has wiped Sean's email add and show site off the planet! Sean come back - how am I going to build my shed without you now?
How can this be? I just discovered Simply Sean last Saturday only to find it was the last broadcast of the summer.Woe is me! When is he coming back? I couldn't stop laughing and he plays fabulous music too. Come back or tell us where you are Sean!
I've been a CBC listener for decades and I'm begging you not to lose Sean Cullen's show. He's very innovative, smart, super entertaining and I can honestly say that I either laugh or smile (sometimes both at the same time (grin)) throughout his entire broadcast! With the often depressing weight of world news and the dizzying pace of everyday life, so many of us desperately NEED laughter in our lives and nothing seems to make it happen! But this guy does it everytime! Please keep Simple Sean on CBC for years to come! :) He deserves it and we really deserve and need the laughter he gives us! :)
