My favourite part of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series was the frictionless spaceship. You could touch it, but not feel it.
Douglas Adams died this week at age 49. I wonder how long it will take Amazon.com to start peddling merchandise related to the deceased.

In connection to the old post, <a href="index.cfm?article=321#321">selective news sympathy</a>, I must say that this event genuinely makes me sad.
Douglas Adams was one of the first authors to truly capture my attention. As a nine year old hungry for anything to read, I read hitchhikers for the first time. Mind you, I didn't get a lot of the jokes, but I did find it damn funny. On later readings, it's always held its charm and humor.
I think I'm going to have to drag out my well read copy once more to say goodbye.

I just read the bad news this morning here on Acts.
Adams was one of my favorite reads with both his Hitchhikers and Dirk Gently series.
I am stunned for words.
'So long, and thanks for all the fish' ? Is that ok?

A few great quotes from Douglas Adams from a nice story on Salon:
<blockquote class="smalltext">
"We are participating in a 3.5 billion-year program to turn dumb matter into smart matter..."
<p>"Technology is our word for stuff that doesn't work yet"
</blockquote>
