Firefox 1.0 is here!

It is 4:51AM Atlantic time and I am sitting in bed with my laptop on my lap. One minute ago, Ben Goodger gave me the final word and I made this CVS commit to the mozilla.org website:

People of Earth, I give you Firefox 1.0

It’s been a long time coming, but Firefox 1.0 is here. See 1.0 announcement posts on Mitchell Baker’s weblog and Ben Goodger’s weblog.

It is an honour to be a part of this announcement.

  1. I have loved Mozilla with passion for years. Yesturday I test-drove Firefox 1.0 pre-release. Bye, bye Mozilla! It was good to know you……

  2. Congratulations and well done! Been looking forward to this as Firefox has been my browser of choice for a while now. Unfortunately, my initial impressions are slightly marred by the fact that the mozilla.org has been very unstable for the past few hours. So after installation I realised that my bookmarks had been blown away and now can’t access any online help, download themes etc. Still, I’m guessing the advertising paid off? 😉

Lets hope Firefox really takes off!

  3. Wow, that must’ve been a good feeling, to have knocked over that first domino..

(I’ll probably regret saying such a cheesy thing tomorrow, but today it feels right :o)

  4. Congratulations, Steven! Truly fine work on the VI. The greatest testament to this achievement is, I’m afraid, a back-handed one.

The earth moved heroically today, but in a way that matters only if you can fast-forward two years and imagine what things would be like if it hadn’t.

  5. Congrats to you and everyone else involved, Steven. This is a very good day for standards, users and the web in general. I’m excited!

  6. Fair play to all involved. Firefox has been constantly on my mind ever since I got a BugZilla account and filed my first bug about 6 months ago. I’ve found making requests and seeing them being acted upon in such a large-scale project to be quite addictive. Today is a great day.

  7. Firefox 1.0 is the best thing to hit the web since netscape 1.0; wait a second, you were once netscape once. Or maybe just kin.

  8. Congratulations to everyone involved! This version of Firefox seems really slick with the search bar, live bookmarks, much improved handling of extensions and updates. It saves me a lot of time at work and it’s just plain fun to use. The whole experience from installation to every-day use is much improved. Nice work!

  9. I have a problem with my set. Not sure what it is but, I am running the mozilla suite. I downloaded the Firefox on Tuesday, but it will not open on my desktop, although it shows downloaded and installed correctly. I am running WIN XP with a 2 sided desktop. 1 is mine and 1 is my partners. Now, firefox will run on his side, but not mine. Very wierd. I cant seem to figure out, HOW to get firefox to load and run on my desktop. recently, the puter crashed and Mozilla was changed to the point I lost my buttons for the tool bar, and they now reside in the bookmarks section, instead of across the toolbar for easy clicking.

Anyway, For anyone out there who’s puter savy, maybe someone can help me find a solution. Id like to run firefox, but it seems not to like my desktop configuration. ???

    thnx
    Jeremy
