Logo Speculation

Classic Apple LogoHere’s a prediction for you: At some point in the next few years Apple will return to the original colored-stripe Apple logo. It will be heralded as a great return to their “roots”.

Remember, you heard it here first.

  1. I like the old multi-colour logo. Mind you…I like the new solid Apple logo. Let’s face it…it’s a great logo anyway you put it.

One of my problems though is the size and positioning of the logo on some of the macs now. For instance, my eMac has a rather large chrome apple logo on the CD door. I’d like to see it a bit less obtrusive.

P.S. – Bring back Apple Garramond!

  2. Great logo the old one, but I dont see Apple going back to it. With the new look of apple being a metal one (powerbooks, G5 and Panther) the chromed logo suits it.

    Apple Garamond still rocks though…

  3. I seriously doubt this. Why would Apple revert to a more complex logo, a logo that relies on color? Also, since this logo was created, ‘rainbow’ grahics have been co-opted by a lot of the gay-pride graphics, and I think it’s fair to say that a large portion of americans realize this. I don’t think they’d go back to the old one when the subtext of ‘rainbow’ graphics has changed so much.

  4. I’m a 19-year-old Graphic Design student, so many of you may say that I have no idea what I’m talking about, but retro is VERY popular right now, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Apple started using the multi-colored logo for marketing purposes. In fact, I think it would actually reach the younger population better if it was used, even if only for a short period of time, in commercials, billboard and magazine ads. I like the new single-color logo just as well, but it would be nice to see them use the multi-colored logo on occasion. It’s not like they completely changed the design. People would still understand that it’s an ad for Apple.

  5. I like that logo a lot, and were it not for the unfortunate new meaning of the rainbow, you maybe be right, but this time, I have to agree with f5… the inference to gay pride is just way too strong.

  6. I’m very sorry to inform all of you that, at least in Australia, the old apple logo is dead. Since its development, the headquarters of apple in Australia has had a multicoloured apple logo on the front of its building, and even after apple changed it’s logo, this one stayed. But recently all this changed, thay have now painted over it with black, and to be honest it looks terrible. Ah well. What can be done?

  7. Perhaps a snazzy multicoloured logo using the iPod mini’s colour selection?

Probably not… but I still smile when I see the old logo.

  8. A few semi-related thoughts:

    – The old Apple does make me smile, too (memories of the Apple 2GS), but I think the Tux will soon make me smile more.

    – Sorry but, I’m not sure we did, “…hear it here first.” If you read the whole article at Macnyt, you’ll come across this toward the end: “Who knows, maybe Apple will soon launch a retro product line with the old rainbow colored apple and the Motter Tektura fontface.”

    – I hope that Apple never goes back to Motter Tektura. Garamond is an illustration of understated elegance surpassed only by Steve Jobs himself. Seriously, it is a nice font.

    – Windows used to be a GUI over a text-based operating system, Mac wasn’t. Now that the converse is true, I hear each side using the other’s old arguements. Wouldn’t it be great if we could all just get along?

Unfortunate? Apple’s coloured logo is not even in the right order of this unfortunate rainbow. Seems to me people are focusing too hard on what the gay community is doing. But that’s another issue.

Steven: I’ll be sure to remember I heard it here first…. but seems to me though only hard core Apple “Zombies” would know something like this and report it first…. hmmm??

  10. …..I’m not gay, but I don’t think it’s fair to call the “new use” of the rainbow “unfortunate.”

Either way.. Myriad sucks balls, and Garamond was the shit… 🙂

  11. erm, the “gay” rainbow flag, which is a different stripe of colours, was in use before apple had a rainbow logo… so maybe apple appropriated it from “the gays”… etc. etc. I’ve heard gay people have started using silver ipods. I suggest everyone moves away from this gay associated colour and start buying pink minis….
