Acts of Volition Radio: Session Eight

Acts of Volition Radio: Session EightAfter being vocally out of commision for a while due to a bad cold, Acts of Volition Radio is back. This is a special session dedicated to the late Gene Eugene. If you haven’t heard of Gene Eugene, that is why I do this. His songs are among the most important to me of any I have known.

  1. Great set. I haven’t actually listened to it all yet, but all I need to do is read the artists and song titles to know it’s going to be fantastic.

  2. I’m half way thro, and it is very good so far.

I think you should get a feature that will show us how many times the file has been downloaded. It will give us an idea as to how many people are listening.

Keep up the goodness! I am suitably impressed so far.

  3. Yeah, it does cut of sharply at the end, but rest assured – you do have the whole thing – just some bad editing on my part.

If I have the time (and motivation), I’ll fix it. Thanks.

  4. I’m really noticing that Gene Eugene sounds very much like Matthew Sweet. Is he ever on record as listing Gene as one of his influences? The similarity is uncanny.

  5. Great Starflyer song. Have you ever seen them in concert? They are really good. I love the other stuff too. Great work.

  6. Hey Steven. I would absolutely love to see “Motorcycle Drive By” by Third Eye Blind in one of your sets. If you have not heard it, check it out I think that you would like it.

  7. “Jimmy” is originally from the Lost Dogs’ album Little Red Riding Hood (which I highly recommend, along with the rest of their albums featuring Gene).

I wish this session had been longer; would’ve been nice to hear some of the funk (i.e. “Deep”) for which Adam Again were best known, and no compilation of Gene’s music is complete without his saddest song of all, “River On Fire”.

In any case, thanks for putting this together, Steven.

  8. Fantastic, it reminds me of Triple J’s ‘The J Files’ sessions.

I’m an instant fan of Gene, time to go find his CD…

probably not in the huge B.Spears section, hope they still stock it… I just checked, Sanity’s closest match is Bryan Adams. That store squashed the other two CD stores in town, so looks like i’m outsourcing for it.
