RIP Dave Thomas, you made one tasty burger

1932-2002Dave Thomas, beloved founder and spokesperson of Wendy’s passed away last night from liver cancer.

I watched a biography about him once on A&E and he lead an interesting life. My favorite part was how he decided that paying sports heros and rock stars millions of dollars to sell burgers he said “Screw that, I can do it”. His work for orphans and adoption also indicates how he never sold out and forgot his roots.

He was a good fellow, he will be missed.

  1. Agreed Rob, good show.

I watched the A&E biography and actually bought Franchising For Dummies which was done by Dave Thomas.

Was quite sad when I read the news this morning as Mr. Thomas seemed to be a genuine good guy and good businessman.

I’m sure that A&E will re-run the biography tonight or sometime this week, everyone should try to catch it.

  2. Apparently in New Zealand there is a strange and different Dave… Perhaps a New Zealander can elaborate?

  3. I’m not a New Zealander, but I am someone who has travelled there and been to a New Zealand Wendys. They have Dave, and he smiles and waves on your placemat, but it’s not acutally Dave. I mean there’s a friendly man and it says “Dave Thomas, Founder of Wendys” under his picture, but it’s really some other friendly looking business guy impersonating Dave. The man is slightly trimmer, has gray hair, not white, and is definetly not the Dave Thomas we’re used to seeing. Very weird.

On a related note, Kiwis have Special K cerial, but they aren’t like squished Rice Krispies, they’re like normal Rice Krispies. The humanity!

  4. And Americans don’t have chocolate Smarties. Their Smarties are the same as Rockets.

    Crazy, I tell ya.

  5. DAVE THOMAS WAS A GREAT MAN AND A BIG HELP TO THOSE WHO ARE ADOPTED LIKE DAVE,I HOPE I LEAVE THIS WORLD DOING SOMETHING GOOD FOR MANKIND.
    R.I.P. DAVE THOMAS,FROM YOUR FANS IN CALGARY,ALBERTA,CANADA.
