Northern Exposure from Cicely, Alaska, on the cusp of the new Alaskan Riviera, in the borough of Arrowhead Country
In order to make this post, I have to reveal that I am a loser. Perhaps I’m fooling myself thinking that this may be news to some of you. Regardless, let it be known that I wrote A&E to complain about the cancellation of the reruns of Northern Exposure.

A&E,
Just a quick note to express my disappointment of your cancellation of the Norther Exposure re-runs you’ve been running. I understand that the show can’t run forever though, and I thank you for giving such a great show a second life and a whole new audience during the time you did run it.

thanks,
Steven Garrity

Embarrassing, yes. But I had to admit it in order to post this impressive response. I don’t think it was written just for me – there must be at least a thousand freaks just like me. Nevertheless, I was very impressed that a human got my email. One tip for companies responding to customer email: don’t call me ‘viewer’ or ‘customer’ – take a second and type my damn name.

Dear Viewer,
Thank you for your comments regarding programming on A&E.

Because our licensing agreement has expired, the program mentioned in your email, NORTHERN EXPOSURE, has ended its run on A&E and will not be returning to the network. As the final cycle commenced in late July, we did not have enough time to repeat the entire 110 episodes; thus, we decided to telecast the most highly rated episodes.

We appreciate that this popular series has won many friends during its tenure on our network, and we know it’s difficult to say goodbye to Cicely. Keep checking fan clubs and various web sites such as www.retrotv.com/nexp.html and http//www.netspace.org/moose/moose.html for updates on the stories of Joel, Maggie, Maurice and all the gang.

A cable channel, Hallmark, is now telecasting NORTHERN EXPOSURE. As copied from their site (www.hallmarkchannel.com) we found:

Weeknights at 11:00 pm (ET/PT)
Return to Cicely, Alaska with the Emmy award winning hit series that captured the hearts of millions. Beginning Monday, Oct. 1, watch the adventures of Northern Exposure six nights a week.

A&E Home Video continues to sell single episodes of this popular series, while supplies last. For available episode titles, please visit “Shop A&E” at www.AandE.com using the search words “Northern Exposure”, or call to order at 1-888-708-1776.

We hope that other programs telecast on our network make your decision to watch A&E worthwhile. Please be advised that your comments and suggestions help to evaluate our present and future schedules.

Thank you for your interest in A&E. We appreciate your support.

Thank you A&E. And for the record, I do not look like Ed, although I do admire him. Here’s a cheesy midi file of the Northern Exposure theme song.

  1. Perhaps Dweeb? Rent “Revenge of the Nerds” or better “Revenge of the Nerds II”. This may help in the classification of the species.

But, then again, you can rock…maybe likely a pre-72 Joey Ramone before the leather jacket…

    Nah…dweeb.

  2. I hear your cry of anguish Steve. I too will sadly miss NX’s run on A&E and, by so claiming, I am not afraid to incur the abuse of the Vinces and Alans of this cruel world.

  3. Surely there will be some one of the new digital stations shwoing this – if they can show “Captain Scarlet” on the new BBC Kids [reason enough for me to subscribe – outta the way, kids!] won’t Country Canada or Deja Vu show it?

    Al
[being slightly more positive – I did see GnR after all so I ought to have some attitude]

  4. Why not buy the boxed sets?

If you love the show that much, it’s definately worth buying. I recently found a guy in the states that has the entire collection of MST3K episodes, and is willing to give them up for $550 USD.

    I might actually do it.

    But you’re still a dork.

  5. I’m waiting for a better medium than VHS.

Those who know me well know that owning all episodes of Northern Exposure is one of the things on my list of things to do when I’m rich (the other is a new pair of socks, every day).

  6. Seriously now, beggers can’t be choosers.

I don’t doubt you when you say that this show was even better than hortons choice, but I wouldn’t bank on a special edition dvd series comming out soon.

I was surprised to see a vhs collection to be honest.

  7. Easly solution.
Get a grey market RCA dish and hook yourself up with the hallmark channel. Although you probably be to busy with the pr0n ppv to remember that NE is on.

  8. yeah Garrity, get that horton’s choice reunion off the ground, you’ll make millions.

Then you’ll have enough money to buy the moose.

Actually, I shouldn’t diss horton, I’ve played with worse.

  9. i watched that show for two years when i used to live in istanbul,i almost watched 100 episodes of it.And i did love it so much …and then i was talkin bout it anyone i met and they d be lookin at me some kind of looser talkin so excited about a tv show, but i liked it so much that in the midleof a party with girls and coke and pot and all that kinda partying atmosphere,i’d leave the place to go home and get my dose of NX.Now im in quebec and i had to chance to watch it after years and years until the c.ck suckin illici tv network cut my line for not having my debt ,so i am prety sad about it and all that but i dl like to say some thing to every one here:for christ sake, all and it was just a brick in the wall…..
it means that it is just a fu.kin tv show and while the life is going on ,making a myth out of ashow and putting so much momentumon it ,gee you guys gotta be realf.ckin superficial.

you know what i say:after all:FUCK NORTHERN EXPOSURE
and i dont give a flyin buck ni fuck whether the co.k suckin series are put on to dvd or not…
    astit generetion de matrix…

alles faire foutre de votre northern exposure cher monseiurs et madames 🙂

    espirit vide.

  10. p.s:sory for the spelling mistakes, the c.ck su.kin computers key board doent work properly ,so i had to pres the buttons so hard in order to be able to put my writing there but there was encore a lot of words not put on the screen sooooo desole dudes and desole for pointing out the degree of the superficiality here as well ,dont take it personal ,it is not you,it is the world today, the c.cksuckin system….

  11. Northern exposure was a great show,I would love to own it also.So not dorky,Adam needs to simmer down.

  12. Id like to know where to get all the songs from the episodes. I had them once and my pc crashed@@Im especialy looking for Alaskan Nights by David Scheartz and the original theme by him as well and an indian type song by him as well. I need wavs in order to put in my websites but will take both. I have every episode ever made. It was so so sad when it went off. There will never be a show as wholesome, funny, and strange with such cultures in it ever again. SienaRed1@aol.com thanks
